Realizing the need for an organization that could serve as a forum to advance the Christian work to which they were called, 13 Baptist Ministers met at the home of the late Rev. Brown (at left), incoming president of the BPMC, standing next to outgoing president, Bishop Sutton.īut first, for the history, as it was documented and organized by the Baptist Ministers Conference of Philadelphia and Vicinity, Committee on History: During the latter part of the 19th Century, the problems, opportunities and responsibilities of over 100,000 Black Baptists and their families, who populated Philadelphia and the surrounding communities in the greater Delaware Valley area, presented the Baptist Ministers of Philadelphia and Vicinity with many challenges in the areas of moral, spiritual and economic leadership.
